The power was out in my house all day due to Tropical Storm Debby moving through North Carolina. I wasn’t sure it would be safe to drive to my office on campus, so I just stayed home. I can’t really concentrate on much when this kind of uncertainty is happening, so work went out the window and I had a chance to finish To Die But Once, a historical fiction detective mystery in the Maisie Dobbs series by Jacqueline Winspear.
I’ve been inhaling this series all summer. I love historical fiction because I love history and I love stories. When they are combined, it’s mwah. My reading taste isn’t too sophisticated. The writing and characters needs to be decent, but plot is the most important to me. Give me a good page turner over a perfectly crafted sentence any day.
